The Kingdom of God – a matter of love and power

We believe that the Spirit of God is preparing pockets of people to be ‘lighthouses’ in strategic locations around the world.  In being a lighthouse; it’s not about presentation, nor programs, nor about keeping up appearances (performance), but about the presence of God.  At River City Life, we believe that we are on a journey more and more into living in the manifest presence of God.  His presence is not confined to a building, or a timeslot, and we are praying for a desperation like that of Moses, to stir up in our hearts for the presence of God (see Exodus 33:11-18).  It’s time for a heart reformation, for hearts to return to the Lord and out of this place will flow streams of living water that will bear much fruit.  It’s not us going and doing things for God, but rather, out of the intimate place, to allow the Lord to live and move through us to bring healing, restoration etc.

We are also on a journey to discover what it means to really love – love God and love one another.  We believe in Biblical fellowship / community that means we are sharing our lives together.  This is not for everyone because it means that we have to be open and walk in the light of fellowship, baring our hearts to one another (1 John 1).  But this is healthy and what pleases the Lord.  We cannot just come to church, hide down the back and go home afterwards, we need to be open and sharing, able to both give and receive.

Importantly, it’s about the Kingdom of God, not a particular local church.  In fact much of our ‘ church’  thinking entraps us and we miss out on the fullness of what the Lord has for us both collectively and individually.  It’s time for the Lord to reign, to see His Kingdom (rule & reign) come into situations, lives and geographical areas.  IT’S TIME FOR MORE!  We are on a journey into this.  We read in Scripture that the Kingdom of God is not about talk, but about love and power and this is our hearts.  In being an apostolic minded church, we are not aiming to grow a big church, but be a people in which some will come and go, as we want to resource other churches in the Kingdom.

We here at River City Life desire to return to the Lord with all our hearts and recapture what it means to be disciples of Jesus.  This is a journey, but a journey worth undertaking as we take the Gospel out in love, word, action and power.  It’s sure to be a great ride.  Yes there will be challenges and tests along the way, but as we seek the Lord and follow Him, He will be faithful in every way.  Why not pray, and join us in this journey as we follow Jesus together.  May the Lord indeed be high and lifted up and receive all the glory, honour and praise.  Amen.

Let us behold the Lord Himself, seeking Him, hearing His voice and following Him as we move into 2010. God’s blessings and grace upon you all.

The following points express some of our aims:

  • To walk in the fullness of the Great Command, and the Great Commission.
  • To live lives of worship 24/7, not just being confined to a Sunday.
  • To see His Kingdom come and His will be done.
  • To release the people of God to walk in the grace of God, in freedom.
  • To be naturally supernatural.
  • To be apostolic in nature and focus on “sending out” rather than “coming in”.
  • To see every member engaged in effective Christian ministry.
  • The building of a community (extended family) that is close knit but also very inclusive.
  • To be prophetic, being a moral voice with a call to righteousness for our community.
  • To be a blessing, to be a people who give and not keep or take.

May the Lord bless you! The River City Life Leadership Team.
