There are people out there today who have lost hope, at least to some degree – maybe that’s you. A broken relationship, death of a loved one, loss of your house or your job can be some causes. Maybe you’ve done something that you think is unforgiveable and you hate yourself for it. Or maybe life has just got you down and you think there’s no hope, what’s the point. Well…there is ‘good news’. (please read on)
There are others who see themselves as ‘good people’. Maybe the odd lie or two, stealing, lying, foul talk, lost your temper every once in a while, lustful thoughts, hatred…the list could go on and will differ for each person, but you see yourself as generally good. But the fact is that good is not good enough. We are all sinners, everyone – each one has fallen short of the glory and the holiness of God and without holiness, no one will see God (Romans 3:23; Hebrews 12:14). But…there is ‘good news’ here too!! (keep reading)
Wherever you are at, whatever life is throwing at you – the good news is Jesus. We read in Scripture that “God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). We read one chapter later that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”. Nothing is too hard for God, as He extends His offer of forgiveness to all who call upon the Name of the Lord – this is His promise. Through Jesus’ death and His shed blood on the Cross, forgiveness is available for all who humble themselves and confess their sin. The Gospel call that echoes down throughout history is to ‘Repent (confess and turn from our sin, from our self-centred lives) and be baptised as we identify ourselves with the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, walking a new life as we follow Him, living under His Lordship. His call is “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it” (Luke 9:23-24). Not only is there forgiveness for the sinner, but also power through the promised Holy Spirit – to bring healing and restoration to the hurt, sick and broken as well as transformation to situations around us. God’s power is at work today changing lives and breaking strongholds. This is His promise, this is His truth.
There is good news for all – the question is, will you humble yourself before the only One, who can redeem or save you?It is His heart, a Father’s heart, that not one would perish – He wants you to know Him. Not just know about Him, but know Him in an intimate and loving relationship, made possible by the Blood of Christ, the Son of God, shed on the Cross for you and for me. Why not call on the Name of the Lord right now?He is not confined to a ‘church building’, or a particular place or time, nor are there ’special words’, just a sincerity of heart – His Word and promise remains true today “for everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). The Lord has been patiently working and longing for this day for you – will you answer the call ‘Come follow Me’?
