Welcome to rivercitylife church

What’s happening at River City Life?

As mentioned previously on the web, the leadership talked about 3 simple areas in Kingdom life.  Fellowship was one of these areas (see paragraph below in italics that was previously on the web).  The church leadership desires to see everyone come into and walk in an intimate relationship with the Lord where they hear His voice and follow Him.  We desire that this would overflow into our relationships with one another.  In short, that everyone would enjoy daily fellowship with the Lord and each other.

Life Groups are a great way to help us grow in fellowship and Life Groups / house fellowships are Biblical.  Paul taught publicly but also from house to house (Acts 20:20)!  Look also at the early church in Acts 2 and see how they lived and shared life together.  We might not want to ‘do’ church anymore, but ‘we are’ the church and this still involves making decisions along the way and actually walking things out.  We would encourage you all to consider joining or starting a Life Group and we are here to help you in any way.  Groups can be around common areas such as e.g. Mum’s or Music Ministry, or they can be geographical in nature, or with other families with children and meet on a Sunday tea time – the main thing is that we go on the journey to learn what is means to love the Lord and each other with all our hearts in community.  Jesus said that the world will know we are His disciples by our love for one another.  Life groups are a great place to be real, to openly relate, to learn, to grow, to be accountable, to serve, and even to witness from as a group.

They key to all this is to see it from a different perspective.  We don’t join a Life Group to get life, but rather because of the life that we have already in Christ, it naturally flows over to wanting to meet and share our life and our Christian walk with others.  Why not ask the Lord today, to pour out His love into your heart afresh by the Holy Spirit, and take a step to do life together with your brothers and sisters in Christ!  God never intended for us to come on a Sunday and leave it at that, but rather live for Him, lives of worship in communion with Him and each other. Let’s walk in the fullness of the fellowship that God intends for us all.  God bless.

(Previous paragraph.)‘Sometimes we as people can over complex things.  We can make things harder than they need to be.  It is no different in the church.  The Pharisees weighed down the people with law after law, placing a heavy burden on them.  When Jesus came, He said "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  (Mt.11:28-30) I believe in this season that God wants to simplify things in the church.  Not so we can get off lightly and get all comfy, but actually the opposite. Simplify, so we can be intentional, grow and bear fruit in 3 simple areas.  This 'fruit bearing' as Jesus said, shows that we are His disciples (Jn.15:8).  These 3 simple areas are core in our walk with the Lord – Fellowship, Discipleship & Mission.  We are called into fellowship with God and each other through Christ.  We are called to be 'Christ like', growing and being equipped and empowered to be all that God has called us to be.  We are called to go and be light in a world of darkness.’

This is a journey, but a journey worth undertaking, a journey worth paying a price for.  Come, it’s time to return to the Lord, and love Him passionately as we follow and live for Him together.

“Thus says the LORD: "Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”  Jer.6:16

May the Lord bless you and may you enjoy daily fellowship with Him.

Please consider coming away with us to Camp Clayton on 16-18 January 2009!

We are well into changing the way we practice being a church, the following points express some of our aims:

  • To release us to freedom & liberty.
  • To be naturally supernatural.
  • To focus on "sending out" rather than "coming in".
  • Every member to be engaged in effective Christian ministry.
  • The building of a community (extended family) that is close knit but also very inclusive.
  • Seeking to be a moral voice with a call to righteousness for our community.

Please stay up to date with what we are planning and implementing by regularly checking the calendar on this website.
