Community

Community is on our hearts and we are on a journey to rediscover what real and Biblical community is…

There are 2 aspects to community here at River City Life.

Firstly, Jesus declared that ‘the world would know that we are His disciples by our love for one another’.

LIFE groups (Church in the suburbs) play a major role in this and it is our desire that everyone is involved.  Church in small groups is an equally valid expression to meeting together on a Sunday corporately.  Paul taught publicly but also house to house.  Jesus is our life, not one that we can limit to a particular time or place and this life that is found in Jesus is meant to flow throughout the week, living in Christian community with one another.  We are encouraging everyone to be a part of these LIFE groups, as they provide an opportunity, to love, to grow, to share, to care, to be accountable, to use your gifts and even to go on mission with.  The opportunities are endless, so why not talk to one of the leadership today, or contact us if you have any questions.  It really is time for Christians to walk together in true, Biblical, real and deep fellowship – to go beyond the surface and walk in the light together.  That is the light of fellowship, sharing every part of our life together – there is protection in community.

Currently we have one meeting on a Tuesday Night, one on a Wednesday morning, two on Wednesday night, one on a Friday morning, and one on a Friday night.

Our prayer is that we would share life together just like we see recorded in Acts 2:42-47.  We are after all, meant to be in ’communion’ with the Lord and with one another.  Our heart is to see everyone not only involved in a LIFE group, but be equipped and empowered to serve the Lord together, operating as the priesthood of all believers.

The second aspect to this is that God has placed us within a community, that is Launceston and surrounding areas here in Tasmania, Australia.  We are called to be salt and light, and to take the good news of the Gospel to all in our community.  This is to be done not just in words, but in action; showing people the love of God in practical ways, but also in power, seeing the Lord move through the working of the Spirit to see lives transformed for His glory.  We read this in Acts, we know it’s occurred throughout history and we believe that the Lord is still moving this way as He looks for people that are willing and wholeheartedly abandoned to Him.

This is our desire and as the Lord leads us, we will be stepping out into various God visions and opportunities this year and beyond, as we take the Gospel out into our community and beyond (see missions).  It’s time to see the walls of church pulled down and live as God’s people, in His strength and power 24/7.  Let’s be bold together!
